Award for Airport Debrecen: “Energy-intelligent Company”

“In the near future, Airport Debrecen is going to invest tens of millions of forints into energy developments.” – said Tamás Meleghegyi, Executive Director of the airport. The company was awarded the title of “Energy-intelligent Company” on Tuesday.

Aiming to turn the airport into a “green airport”, the company has joined a European energy-saving programme. Concerning the investments the Executive Director said that their goal is to use more and more renewable energy sources and to build an energy storage system. The investments are long-term ones, might become profitable in 10-15. On Tuesday, Airport Debrecen officially became the first energy intelligent company in Hungary by receiving the title “Energy-intelligent Company” as the winner of an energy efficiency tender.

Tamás Meleghegyi remarked that the charter traffic in the airport would increase this year. The eight destinations remain but the flights will go more often. Meanwhile, negations are going on with mostly Western European airlines about launching scheduled flights from Debrecen before the end of the year. The first airline to do so is Wizz Air: from 18 June, they are going to fly between Debrecen and London-Luton 3 times a week.
