This is what the Ukrainian cigarette smuggler said in English when finance guards from Debrecen caught him on highway M3.
Last night, the finance guards stopped and checked out a VW Jetta with Czech license plates. The Ukrainian driver handed over his driving license and, though nobody asked him anything, he said: “DRIVER!” The finance guards then opened the doors of the vehicle at which packets of cigarettes started to pour out. The car was stuffed with 11.500 packets of cigarette without Hungarian tax stamp. The driver said the vehicle and the tobacco products weren’t his; he had received the consignment in Nyíregyháza and he should have driven it to Prague. The 7 million HUF worth products and the VW Jetta were seized by the police. The Ukrainian driver is being prosecuted for receiving stolen goods subject to excise duty.
